Codependency is defined as when someone becomes so preoccupied with someone else that they neglect themselves. "In its broadest sense, codependency can be defined as an addiction to people, behaviors or things and is the fallacy of trying to control interior feelings by controlling people, things, and events on the outside." Codependency is typically seen in families impacted by alcoholism and substance abuse but can also be seen in other relationships.
